Summer is Fantasy Football Season $1.5 Billion Industry Explodes as Nearly 14 Million Football Fans Draft and Manage Their Own Fantasy Teams
Garden City, NY August 27, 2004 -- For sports fans who think that summer is just baseball season, think again. Summer is the prime season with millions of fantasy football players' thoughts turn to drafting teams and joining leagues in the $1.5 billion fantasy sports industry that is exploding by leaps and bounds.
Why is fantasy football such a big winner? The Internet. The once laborious exercise of following players, researching statistics and finding out how they did in the weekly games is now available by the stroke of a key. The Internet has allowed Fantasy Football players to more easily manage teams, check out the latest statistics on any player, trade players, converse with others in chat rooms and on Web sites, and compile team points during the regular pro football season.
"The ease of managing teams on the Internet has opened the fantasy football world to a whole new group of football fanatics," said Ian Millman, co-founder of www.FantasyFootballChamps.com. "Fans can have control over their own players and their own teams and have a chance to show their friends – and the professional coaches and owners -- that they really do know how to run a better football team."
Fantasy Football is where participants create and manage their own fantasy "teams" made up of professional players and compete each week within their leagues against their friends, co-workers or even strangers. The summer months before the start of the pro football season is when most players strategize who to draft for their teams to have the best chance of winning their league. Often, winners of the leagues have money prizes.
How fanatical are fantasy players? The surprising results are in: A recent survey conducted by FantasyFootballChamps.com found that players think more about fantasy football (40%) than sex (30%), money (18%) and food (3%). Fifty-eight percent of respondents said they spend one to three hours each day thinking about it, and even more surprising, a full 25% of respondents claim to spend from four to eight hours a-day thinking about Fantasy Football.
"How often people think about sex on a daily basis has long been known, but what we didn't really know is how much men today are also thinking about fantasy football, " says Ian Millman, co-founder of FantasyFootballChamps.com, which conducted the survey through subscribers to the company's informational website. "Although we realize that Fantasy Football has grown in popularity in recent years, even we were taken aback by the fact that it has quickly taken over the number one spot as to what many men are thinking about in their spare time these days, at least during football season", adds Jon Millman the other co-founder of FantasyFootballChamps.com or FFChamps.com as they are known around the industry.
FantasyFootballChamps.com is a leading web site with more than 100,000 unique visitors each month. This makes getting the best inside information available on the Internet all the more critical to winning the league. Last year, Ian and Jon challenged the top Fantasy Football advice web sites, and they beat them all, including ESPN and CBS Sportsline. Their uncanny ability to pick out the "sleepers" – players who are not expected to do well but end up having fabulous seasons – is the winning edge that most players want to know when drafting fantasy teams.
Since its founding, FantasyFootballChamps.com has helped thousands of people to enjoy Fantasy Football through its online services, including accurate stat projections, customizable cheat sheets, updated player news and injury reports and other tools to help people win their leagues. In addition, the site offers a unique product-- a proprietary mathematical formula (known as the FFCPI) -- which takes every variable into account and helps people each week when picking their starting lineup. They also offer one-on-one advice which gives players direct access to the FFChamps staff through the Team Analyzer.
