NAFL Forms Partnership with Team USA Football
May 30, 2004 -- The NAFL announced today that it formed a partnership with Team USA Football. Team USA's mission is to promote adult amateur football in the United States and abroad. Rudy Wyland, Director of Team USA exclaimed, "Our mission is to promote American football and give players the opportunity to play in an international setting. This includes bringing international players to the United States as well."
The NAFL will work with and promote Team USA in order to become the officially recognized amateur football team by an organization called USA Football. USA Football (USAfootball.com) is the officially recognized United States based football association of the International Federation of American Football. NAFL President, Rob Licopoli, and General Counsel, Thomas Hall, are in negotiations to bring their goals of international recognition to fruition.
Team USA Football Gladiators were started in 2002 and have accrued a record of 3-1 against New Zealand Hawkas, Graz Giants, Roma Gladiatori and Stuttgart Scorpions. Recently, many players from around the United States gathered in a historical event where Team USA defeated the Stuttgart (Germany) Scorpions 24-13.
Players can join Team USA by submitting an application via the Team USA web site at Teamusafootball.com once it becomes available early this June. Players are selected based on college and/or minor league experience.The next games are being negotiating with a northern German team for late summer and the French National Team in Paris in November.
